April is National Poetry Month. As flowers begin to bloom, it’s a wonderful time to bring your students outside so they can spend time in nature and heighten their senses as they listen, look, smell, and feel all that spring has to offer and then write about it. The National Writing Project has lots of ideas for supporting your students to create poetry. Click here to access a great handout on figurative language. Click here to find a lesson for exploring the five senses through metaphor. There is also a Writer’s Toolbox Handout that includes palettes, cadences, and storyboards. Let us know what you try with your students.
