The Central California Writing Project seeks to promote exemplary instruction of writing in every classroom in the central California tri-county area.  We offer a variety of programs and professional learning opportunities that support ongoing conversations among educators– in different school contexts– and with a diversity of students at all levels—from kindergarten through university—on the theory and practice of teaching writing.

Programs

CCWP offers a variety of open programs in which teachers can participate and learn from our network of teacher consultants and each other.

Partnerships

CCWP works with teachers and administrators to develop a professional learning plan that addresses specific, context-driven pedagogical needs.

Projects

CCWP invites teachers to explore their own pedagogical challenges and questions through ongoing inquiry into practice in our invitational leadership institutes.

The CCWP encourages diverse approaches to the teaching of writing. We promote no set formulas or packaged plans, though we are committed to an underlying philosophy:

Teachers are the key to improving education, and the best teachers of teachers are other teachers.

Teachers’ and students’ lives and learning are enriched when those with whom we interact represent diversities of race, gender, class, ethnicity, and language.

Knowledge about teaching writing results from an interaction between theory and practice.

Meaningful change happens over time.

Teachers of writing must write.

The teaching of writing is vital to a democratic society.

Teachers are the key to improving education, and the best teachers of teachers are other teachers.
