“As we move toward the darkest days of the year, the National Writing Project  invites you to spend time writing, reading, and getting inspired.”

Give yourself the gift of time to write.  Hopefully you can spend a little of your break recharging by writing about your dreams for the future of education (whether that future is next semester, or the year 2074).  Or maybe writing something for someone else.  Need inspiration?”  Click here.

The National Writing Projects suggests buying yourself a new book and making time to talk about it with someone else.  The following books are not only great options for book clubs but book clubs are taking place in the Write Now Teacher Studio:

  • The National Writing Project describes A Snake Falls to Earth as, “a powerful blend of Indigenous storytelling, contemporary young-adult fiction, and environmental themes.”

  • James is a powerful reimagining of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn told from the perspective of Jim.

  • Other People’s Kids follows three educators at different points in their careers.

“If you were asked to name one true thing in your life, what would it be?  If you wanted to tell someone the story of how you came to know that one true thing, how would the story go?”  That is the prompt for Narrative for Schools’ eleventh annual writing contest this year.  Narrative for Schools is a partner with the National Writing Project.  Click here to learn more about the contest.
