The California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) invites you to join us in Los Angeles for CATE 2026 at the Hilton Los Angeles (LAX). This year’s theme, “Power to the Teacher: Preserving Narratives, Amplifying Perspectives,” celebrates the important role of English and Literacy teachers in shaping inclusive classrooms, inspiring student voices, and fostering equity through teaching. The convention will feature keynote speakers, engaging breakout sessions, and opportunities for connection and collaboration with fellow educators across California.
The Pre-Convention, hosted by the California Writing Project (CCWP), will take place on Thursday, March 5. Keynote speaker Dr. Nicole Mirra from UCLA will lead the day’s activities, which will center on “From Classrooms to Communities: Teaching Writing for a Democratic Future.” Participants can look forward to workshops focused on civic engagement, writing for justice, Ethnic Studies, digital literacy, and self-care through writing. Morning coffee, tea, and lunch will be provided.
