We, the Central California Writing Project, are committed to creating learning communities for youth and educators that embody a more socially just and equitable society. We believe in the power of language, literacy, and writing for thinking, learning, transformation, and as a means to break down oppressive systems. We enact these beliefs by supporting educators in their efforts to provide youth, particularly those from marginalized communities, with authentic and critical language and literacy learning opportunities that draw on students’ strengths across the disciplines. In particular, we prioritize providing and facilitating meaningful writing experiences in our classrooms. Because the professional learning experiences that we endorse emanate from a view of educators as agents responsible for their own learning, we involve colleagues in collaborative inquiry, discussion, and reflection.
