Inquiry and the Role of Writing in Antiracist and Culturally Sustaining Curriculum and Instruction
M-F: June 19-23

M-Th: June 26-29, 2023

Virtual and In-Person: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

During the Central CA Writing Project Invitational Summer Hybrid Institute,  11 educators applied for and were selected to explore inquiry and the role of writing in antiracist and culturally sustaining curriculum and instruction.  Throughout the 9 day hybrid institute, teachers had constructive conversations about social justice, equity, and meaningful writing in their classrooms.

Participants had the opportunity to read current research on critical literacy and instruction and develop their own writing, and demonstrate and share writing lessons in the classroom.  Through collaboration, they developed inquiry questions for classroom research, responded to one another’s writing, and used and shared digital tools to support their own and students’ learning.

Upon completion of the institute, educators became CCWP Teacher Consultants, and joined our National Writing Project community of teacher leaders who participate in ongoing collaboration and receive opportunities to provide professional learning.
